Moy Report 30th June @ 8.30am

Height at Ballylahan bridge 0.72m

The latest rise in water levels peaked during the night at 0.80m and is falling away again.  All stretches of the fishery are in good order and all methods should be in with a chance of fish.

Showery rain is forecast to clear to scattered showers this morning.  Top temperature 17c in a southwest wind.  The unsettled weather pattern is set to continue in the short term.

I was out again yesterday afternoon and was faced with a slowly rising river.   The first pool produced a good strong pull that didn’t develop into anything. I did however see a couple of nice grilse throw themselves out as they passed by.

Half way down the next pool the line stopped and I lifted into another fresh lively grilse.  After a good battle it was in the net and soon released again.  As I fished out the remainder of the pool several more running fish showed as they went through.

I decided to move further upstream to get ahead of the running fish but after trying several pools without a pull and seeing nothing I packed in for home.  Maybe I should have stayed where I was!

Another fresh Moy grilse yesterday, from East Mayo Anglers Association.

  1. Nice fresh fish Paul.
Out of interest, have the changes to some of the pools you mentioned, which were brought about by the winter floods, altered where the fish tend to rest.
    Cheers

    • Hi Eugene
Some of the lies have gone and I have also caught a few fish in places that produced nothing in the past. Its a learning curve at the moment and every bit of water is worth a throw just in case a new lie has been created.
      All the best
      Paul
