Moy Report 30th April @ 8 am

Height at Ballylahan bridge 0.70m

Water temperature 8°c

Its a cool bright start to the day here in Mayo, in fact there was a frost overnight.  The big change is the wind has died down.  The river began to creep up yesterday evening and is falling again.  The river is in great order, and anglers will be hoping for some cloud cover to improve their chance of a fish.

Yesterday was another blustery day with strong winds and the odd heavy shower.  I didn’t go to the river until 4.30 pm, when the wind started to ease a bit. It proved to be worthwhile as I got my second spring salmon of the year at about 9lb. The fish had been in a while, but put up a great scrap.  I was fishing a floating line with a slow sinking tip and a conehead on the business end.  The fish swam off strongly after a few minutes revival. There were at least two other fish caught at around 12lb & 6lb.  If the weather improves there could be a period of good sport as we move into the peak springer month of May.
